We moved from Texas to IKF in December 2021, and we are very happy with our decision. The facilities here are excellent, and the residents are accomplished, interesting, friendly, helpful people. Several times we have heard the phrase “like a cruise ship that doesn’t go anywhere” to describe IKF. When we recently returned from a luxury cruise in the Adriatic Sea, we decided that IKF is even better than a cruise ship.

After being on the WLR "wait list" for approximately three years and enjoying all the perks associated with that -- meal vouchers, social events --we received a call in late November 2019 informing us that some apartments had come available. "Were we interested in looking?" Having lived in the split foyer house that we had built in 1966 and keeping up a 1/2 acre yard, we knew that the time was right. We came, we looked, and we chose and moved into our apartment on [date removed] Moving to Westminster was the best decision that we have made in recent years. From the day we moved, even though it was in the midst of the Covid lock-down, we received a warm welcome from our neighbors and staff. One neighbor even brought us delicious bread from a bakery in Occoquan! Leaving a home and community that has encompassed most of our adult life was not easy. But moving to Westminster has opened up a new community and a new and exciting chapter of our lives.

My husband and I have lived here for five years. Our pre-pandemic view was that it's a great place to be--easy to get into DC for events and museums with a town shuttle to the Metro right outside our door. Our son & family used to live on Capitol Hill and we loved taking the grandsons to museums. The apartment is big and comfortable and our pets were warmly welcomed. We used to love the dining service with excellent meals and lots of opportunity to see old friends and make new ones. Our post-pandemic view is that IKF management has done a spectacular job of keeping us safe. There have been a few (4 I think) cases in residents with NO secondary spread. Three of those four appear to have been caught from aides who also worked at other places. Management has been thoughtful about providing us with comfortable outdoor places to get together with friends--and has provided heaters in the most popular spots so we can continue some outdoor meetings into cold weather. Meals are delivered and are good although not as outstanding as before. It's fairly expensive here but we think it's worth it.

We have visited a few places as guests of residents but had always been pleased with Westminster when we visited a cousin of my mother many times over several years. She had an apartment that was very comfortable and we enjoyed our meals with her in the dining room. When we started thinking of our own future we discovered Westminster was going through a major renovation and liked the plans that we saw and the staff's care and accommodations for the present residents. We also liked the size of the facility and the activities within Westminster and in the neighboring community. Westminster's continuing care plan is also and important consideration as we get older. We can make our move when the time comes without mourning what we leave behind us as it gets more difficult to keep up with a house and yard.

We decided several years ago that a Continuous Care Retirement Community (CCRC) was the best life plan for us. After reviewing many choices online and visiting a couple of locations, we selected Westminster at Lake Ridge. We wanted to live in an independent cottage with easy walking access to onsite amenities such as a gym, dining, and recreation, all of which we found at Westminster. The health services offered are varied and will provide us with care through any stage of our life. Once we made our decision, the administrative staff has stayed in touch with us and is always available to answer any of our questions. We like that there are opportunities to talk with those already living there as well as to meet others on the waitlist through social events or informative sessions. That Westminster is close to family is an added bonus for us. We look forward to becoming a permanent member of the community when the time is right for us.

The staff all have been very helpful with the move and we are just about settled in. The community is very friendly and there is always something going on. There are many scheduled activities to choose from. They have a wonderful Sunday brunch with many delicious choices. There are a variety of options to choose from for lunch and dinner. If it wasn't for A Place for Mom we wouldn't have found this wonderful place!

We are new residents and already feel at home in at this wonderful community. Our cottage was redone to our specifications and all personnel were extremely helpful in the planning and pcompletion of the process. WLR personnel made sure our move in went smoothly. Activities are limited because of Covid 19, but, considering the restrictions, the staff has done an excellent job in this area. The residents are very friendly and welcoming. We are very happy we made the move.

My mom was one of the first/original renters. She was so happy from the day she moved in 10 years ago. She would always say this is the best decision I ever made. She made some very close friends, and enjoyed all the creative activities the staff had for the residents. In fact, I became very close to staff and residents as well. Sadly my my mom passed 2 months ago. So not only do I miss my mom, i also miss the wonderful relationships that I developed with the tremendous staff and residents. ingleside at King Farm rocks!!

One of the things a appreciate most at Ingleside is the cosmopolitan atmosphere: The majority of residents has lived overseas for an extended period of time, and usually in various countries all over the globe. Residents are well informed and take a keen interest in both domestic and international development, facilitating stimulating discussions at dinner time. This cosmopolitan environment is reinforced by an excellent activities program, including on-campus lectures and cultural visits in the Washington area.

Ingleside at Rock Creek is an exceptional place. My grandmother has been a resident there for 2 years now. Every time my family visits her, the staff is pleasant. The facility is clean and very welcoming and we always have and continue to have pleasant experiences. The food that we have experienced there while visiting has been great. Although, she is in her 80's, she constantly tells us how she enjoys interacting with other residents her age and how they keep activities planned for her that she enjoys. While I know that some places in the DMV area are not good choices, we feel that we have made the perfect choice for her. She hasn't had one complaint and neither have we. Ingleside is a great place for family members who are independent but need a safe place to live where they can mingle with other seniors their age and still feel as though they are active citizens of society.

My grandfather recently stayed at Ingleside and I must say it was a excellent experience for him and my family! The staff was excellent and attentive to his needs. The rehab team was pleasant, and persuasive. They always seem to keep a smile on his face while helping him get back on his feet. The food was good and the place was clean. He always had nice things to say when I visited him. I would recommend this facility to others for sure! Thank you Ingleside for helping get my Grand father back home!

Overall my mothers happy. Communication was tough at the beginning but has gotten better. They set up covid shots for the residence and made that really easy. The community is neat and clean and the staff is very friendly. I would recommend this community to others.

I have lived at Ingleside at King Farm (IKF) for 7 years. It is quite expensive, with hefty annual hikes much more than the cost-of-living, Social Security, and pension increases - 4.5% for 2021. It was pretty resident-centered but now the priority is convenience for staff, and they will institute changes which are a great inconvenience (like requiring residents to give their meal order by 8 AM the day prior to the meal) almost instantly to make things more convenient for staff and contractors. And work which one would normally expect to be done by staff is foisted off on unpaid residents. For example, IKF changed trash/recycling contractors to one which didn't recycle much of what the previous supplier had. Residents now collect many of the recyclables themselves and transport it to the Transfer Station. A number of residents who moved in the last year or so have told me that the sales agents promised things that they have not seen in practice.

Over the holiday I went to visit my aunt at Westminster. She is in the memory care unit that is called "The Neighborhood" - no idea why. When I walked in I could not find any staff. There was an elderly patient sitting in a wheelchair, slumped to the side, almost slid off the seat. This person obviously could not get out of the wheelchair, and did not have the strength to correct their sitting position. While I checked around for help, the patient continued to call out Help, Help. Finally I went to the person and said I would help, but the poor thing was obviously terrified. I made sure that a fall was not imminent. On my continued search for my aunt and some staff I encountered more people confined to chairs, in various places in the center. Someone was beating on the locked door to the neighborhood. Over the years my aunt has received good care in Assisted Living, and I have met very kind people working there. The problem is nursing care and memory care. There is not enough staff, and what they do have are barely able to keep up. They are severely understaffed and it is a chronic situation. Recently, it has become dramatically worse, there have been cutbacks, and I am very worried about her future. I also discovered that the Executive Director, head of HR and a significant amount of nursing staff are now also suddenly gone. The marketing department does a great job selling people on the amenities of this place, but I think if more people took an unscheduled tour of the assisted living and memory care areas, the last beds they will be provided there, they would be afraid to give control of their last days to these people. I was horrified and brokenhearted at the conditions in which I found my aunt and the even worse conditions in which I found her fellow patients. I honestly have no idea what to do. I need to share this, if only to remind people to dig deeper into the future of care here.
