The staff is wonderful. They care for my father as if he was part of their family, even calling him grandpa. He is always clean, well-fed, and smiling. When he recently went into the hospital, the director came to visit him. He told her that he just wanted to go home ... meaning The Oaks. You can't ask for more than that.

I am very happy with Sparks Inn and I am pleased to know that my mother is in a place that she can be well taken care of. What really sold us to move forward with this community are their affiliations with Christian City. Christian City is a Christian based non-profit organization that started with under privileged children and foster children. They had a good reputation in the city and in the elderly community. This is a good place with a good core value. What gave me a sense of comfort is how large of a facility it is. Typically smaller facilities may or may not have enough staff to tend to each resident. However, having a large facility such as this one has a wide variety of services like hair dressers, doctors, and multiple restaurants. This eliminates families having to pick up their loved ones and take them to doctors’ appointments or getting their hair done. They also have family rooms. If you were to want a birthday party you could use these rooms with kitchens and dining room tables and have a private get together. This facility really understands family needs. This place is large enough to give opportunities to families to come and spend time with their loved ones. I have nothing but good things to say about this property. I recommend this place to others. I am very satisfied with the administrative staff, their medical staff, their food, the entertainment that comes in once in a while, and my mother loves the freedom she has here.

Sparks Inn is a very nice place, overall. They're very attentive to the needs of the residents, and I think they do a great job introducing new people to the community. Our experience so far has been a good one, and I would recommend Sparks Inn to others looking in the area!

I have lived in (The Oaks at) Whitaker Glen for 11 years, and believe it is the best Independent Living facility in Raleigh. The staff, year in and year out and despite normal turnover, are uniformly compassionate, friendly and caring. The food is superior to that at any other retirement community I have visited here--consistently good and often excellent thanks to an expert chef. Residents are a delightful mix of Southern and Northern people, many retired from N.C. State University, state government or the professions. The apartments offer more "bang for the buck" than anywhere else in terms of space--large rooms, high ceilings, superb soundproofing, excellent storage, balconies for every unit. (One resident was able, in her one-bedroom apartment, to set up her painting studio in the bedroom.) All apartments have pleasant, wooded views with lots of birds. Whitaker Glen's location inside the Raleigh Beltline is unparalleled for convenience, and its architecture, public-space decor and landscaping are beautiful. I am sad to contemplate leaving my beloved two-bedroom, 1 1/2 bath apartment, but I am old enough now to need to be near my daughter, so must move out of state. It will be a lucky soul or couple who inherit (after renovation) this apartment in this great community.
We stopped here 1 year ago for a tour & they had just started their renovations. The entire downstairs has been updated & it's beautiful. The dining rooms are all new - there are 2 downstairs & they added what looks like the 50's style diner with burgers & sandwiches. The new library is really nice with about 5 or 6 computers for the people to enjoy. They have a courtyard in the center which has all new furniture & new grills for outdoor barbeques. They added an area where families can come in & have their own parties - it has a large dining table, full kitchen & dishes. They have a 2 hour limit. There is a full gym/therapy room, beauty salon & a doctor comes in once a week. My mom did not want to go into a facility but now she's really enjoying it. They plan on doing some minor work in the rooms but we have been very satisfied with the staff, food & the entire facility. They are always having outside entertainment come in & Chick-fil-a comes in twice a week. I hope this helps!

Our family was able to do an in person tour and we really liked the place. The tour was great, it was a nice situation and in a very nice neighborhood. However, the location was just not convenient for our family and at the time they only had available a 2-bedroom shared room and we just did not think that was going to be the right fit for our loved one.

I enjoyed the tour and the decor of the common areas. The location of the facility to home is the closest. The rooms available will meet mom's needs. I will request an evaluation for mom to see if she is a good fit. Pricing may present a bit of a challenge when the final bill is known.
