Seemed Nice

It seemed to be very nice. There was a good mix of men and women. It would have been the one we would have chosen if we hadn't seen another one. They had a nice yard. I can't remember whether or not people had free access to it though. I can't remember whether or not they had the doors locked. I don't know how many dementia patients they had either so maybe having the doors locked was necessary.

Like the living arrangements. 6-8 residents are housed in a building that has a small living room with bedrooms surrounding the living room. One caregiver was assigned to each building each shift -- three to a building in all. I liked the homeiness if this approach and I was impressed by the Administrator.

When I toured Ridgeview Gardens, I thought the tour was okay but when we left they did not give us any extra information. They just took us around, told us the price, and that was it. Other places gave us a pamphlet to take home.

Not as bright and open!

When I toured Ridgeview Gardens, the person that took me around was very friendly, but the place was very confined and dark. There were long dark hallways. My thought was, if I was going to be in an apartment all day, I want to be able to leave and go somewhere like a nice courtyard or a walking trail. This facility did not provide that.

After seeing the community it seems they would be able to provide care. The level of care is very good and the staff seemed to care. I was impressed with tour. The community was clean and appears nicely decorated. We did not get the feeling of home but we enjoyed the tour.

Talked to about ...

Talked to about 6 other places before deciding on Bee Hive Homes. As far as value goes I think all the places were overpriced, Bee Hive does not seem out of line with what other places are charging, I just think it is too much in general. Also, they do not provide transportation to residents here. The staff is very friendly. I cannot really rate the activities that they offer, I haven't seen any yet.

Our Experience

We chose this facility because it was the best we could find in our price range. The food could've been better. The first activities Director left about halfway through my mom's stay and there were a few months with no activities. However, the new activities Director was great when she got on board. At the end of my mom's stay, the facility changed ownership, so it may be different now. The facility was very receptive to my suggestions and extremely sweet at the end when my mom was on hospice.

I would not recommend

After [name removed] passed I never heard a word of condolence from them. That was disappointing. They just wanted me to pay another months rent. [name removed] enjoyed the people and that is the only reason we stayed. The staff constantly turns over. There are long periods of time where there is no activity director so no activities. The food was fair and the cleanliness was average. The staff were very friendly to [name removed]. As far as the cost in the first 6 months the cost increased over [removed]$. It constant my went up and the service went down.

Lost in the shuffle

Both of my parents lived at Heritage Village for almost 2 years. My mom had dementia. she had numerous falls and after my dad died, staff did very little to keep her from trying to get around and she broke her femur. she was not supervised and had falls even after that. Now that they are both deceased, they cannot find jewelry that one of the caregivers cut off because they afraid of her swelling hands. They have no idea where it is. My mom's name was misspelled on her coffee cup and most of what we witnessed was disinterest and lack of caring. They rarely answered the phone when we couldn't reach my parents and did nothing to see that they knew where the phone was.

General Impression

While quickly looking for a place for my dad we selected this community. It has been kind of good but some issues. On Sunday the staff are very lean and they don't seem to worry about dehydration, even if the residents don't want it. Their food service is very weak, the quality of food is not fresh. It is a small complex with low amounts of residents. The staff work their hardest and they are very nice.

Make sure you ask questions

I was initial very impressed with Bee Hive but then I found out I was not being told certain things. For example I had to ask if you accept the Altex program. Their answer was no which makes the difference for our situation but they were ready to move us in under private funding for a period of time. If I would have decided to sign the paperwork before I asked the right questions I don’t know what would have happened. I would just advise to make sure you are asking the right questions because they will not disclose something if it doesn’t benefit them. When I did ask about it they said they would be able to help out and waive certain things but the matter was that I had to ask to get the information.

My mother spent 5 weeks at Verandas before she was placed in a Hospice facility. She was not happy with the service she received at Verandas. However she was failing quickly when she was admitted and within a week or so needed help dressing herself and eating. Her inability to help herself continued to decline until she left. Verandas was clear that as an Assisted Living Facility their clients had to be able to be more self sufficient than my mom was in order to stay. The facility was clean and rooms were nice and the food good. The owner was also willing to work with us on waving the normal 1 year private pay requirement before we could have a Medicaid bed however we didn't end up needing this.

How many aides to residents is what counts

This is a lovely, homey facility. The majority of the staff are wonderful and caring. The problem is there are not enough of them. Residents can wait 1 - 2 hours at times for an aide once they push their call buttons. Go at meal times and watch how long the residents who need help back to their rooms have to wait for someone to come get them and take them back...it can be 1 1/2 hours! Residents keep filling up rooms, but aides are not increased to help handle the extra load. Most residents are very high assistance, (in walkers, wheelchairs, etc and need help). There is also a very high turnover of aides, it doesn't help that it is the lowest paying facility in the valley. Owners care more about their bottom line then residents well being. When extra short on aides, (someone doesn't show up for their shift) , there are a high incident of falls.

Go anywhere else would be my advice

It was miserable for me. I felt really bad for the people who are still there to the point that I had state inspectors there and everything but I don't know if it helped... I hope so for the sad people that are still there. Another woman was running it when I originally came and then she got sick two weeks after and she left and it just went really downhill. My personal experience was miserable there. I'm sorry I have to be honest the Director of nursing made my life a living nightmare she was completely unfair about medication. She changed the rules about money several times while I was there, she brought her own children into the facility and had them running and screaming throughout the facility and living there. It ruined any kind of experience I could've had and made me isolate in my room. They didn't clean my room. They stopped cleaning my room for the two months that I was there when I was leaving so I can't really give you an accurate statement on this, but I would say the place was OK. But I cleaned my own room. Took out my own trash did everything. Friendliness some of the staff there were really good and it was sad because some of them really tried and really cared but overall the director of nursing, warped the experience and came in and made all the good ones leave therefore we just kept having a rotating shift of people so I didn't get to know the new people.. but they could be mean at times yelling at me and other residents. Food was so terrible I ate out, even though it was provided. They did have an activity lady who was there and she was really nice but she ultimately quit due to the Director so while she was there she was really good but there wasn't any during my end period of time.
