Assisted living communities provide healthcare, oversight, and social interaction to individuals around 65 years old. The types of service provided often include support with activities of daily living. Occupants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer dementia care, skilled nursing care, or respite. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois maintains a number of provisions related to this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health licenses this type of community. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Staff must receive education in a number of areas. These include: hygiene, resident rights, neglect prevention, and confidentiality. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include non-medical services, assistance with activities of daily living, laundry, and medication administration. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, and A comprehensive assessment. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include observing the resident, supervision of self-administered medications, and medication reminders.
