Assisted living communities offer social events, oversight, and healthcare to persons around 65 years of age or older. The services offered often include aid with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and assessment. In some situations, communities may offer hospice, nursing, or respite. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois maintains specific regulations associated with this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health certifies this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications, medication administration, and documenting whether or not the resident took the medication. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. Staff are required to receive training in a number of fields. These areas include privacy, residents’ need and service plans, infection control, and disaster procedures. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication administration, laundry, non-medical services, and emergency response systems. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program.
