Assisted living communities have the luxury of a sense of community as well as individualized help. The services offered often involve support with the activities of daily life. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In certain situations, communities may offer respite, continuing care, or dementia care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois has specific statutes related to this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this type of community. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include security, assistance with activities of daily living, medication administration, and laundry. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Staff must receive education in a variety of fields. These include: hygiene, choice, neglect prevention, and resident rights. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration, reading the medication label to residents, and medication reminders.
