An assisted living community is an organized living community which provides care, aid, and supervision to healthy seniors who do not need skilled nursing support. Services provided often involve assistance with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. In certain situations, communities may offer Alzheimer’s care, respite, or nursing care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois has specific statutes related to this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health supervises this community type. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reading the medication label to residents, documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, and medication reminders. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Staff members obtain training in a number of areas.
