Assisted living communities offer residential communities and health care for people who may need support with things such as taking medication or mobility. Services offered often involve support with ADLs. Residents may be kept under observation and evaluation. In some instances, communities may offer respite, nursing, or Alzheimer’s care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois maintains specific statutes associated with this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health supervises this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration, supervision of self-administered medications, and documenting whether or not the resident took the medication. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include non-medical services, laundry, security, and supervision of self-administered medications. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A comprehensive assessment, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, and provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Staff members receive education in a variety of areas. These include: self-determination, confidentiality, independence, and promotion of dignity. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals.
