This is a really great place. The staff are friendly and caring. They are engaging the residents in the different activities offered at the community. My loved one is receiving assistance with dressing, hygiene, and toileting. The staff are responsive to questions or concerns the family has. There is one caregiver per eight resident, and if your loved one's caregiver isn't available, another caregiver will assist you. If my loved one doesn't like what is being served, there is an alternate meal available. Some of the activities available include tea parties, arts and crafts, music, outside entertainment and organizations, and more for the residents to choose from. They have a resident meeting (similar to a town hall), the community is willing to accept new ideas for activities as well from the residents.... Read more

Over the last 6 months the quality of food served has declined due to budget cuts and because occupany rate of residents has declined, as double digit rate increase was implemented. Meals used to be cooked at the location but now are brought from a food vendor and either warmed in the oven or in warm water if in pouches. Very limited activities, when compared to other memory cares units. Staff is good, but senior management is lackluster.

I liked the community; however, they were unable to provide care or accept my loved one.
The care and the staff are great! It is a beautiful community.

I toured Terra Vista twice to look for a place for my grandmother as she grows older and I was only met with smiling faces, people who understood my concerns, and staff who was eager to meet my grandma and explore her needs. There are so many activities including bird watching and arts which I know she enjoys and I’m excited she’ll continue to be stimulated and comfortable in her living space.

Our family had an in person tour and overall it is a bigger facility so it seemed like there were more activities to offer and more staff around. The community is very bright, open and airy. They have a nice big courtyard that they utilize for activities and we really enjoyed our conversations with the executive director.
My loved one seems to be doing well. She's gaining weight, which is something that we wanted for her. She's more engaged in activities than she was at home. Most of the staff are really good. All the caregivers are really nice to her and greet her by name. Like everywhere else, they've been a little understaffed due to Covid. I would love to see more communication from them so I could know more what's going on with her day-to-day. There doesn't seem to be a way to do that aside from calling them. It would be nice to be able to see it on an app or something.

Terra Vista has experienced care staff and members that have patience towards the residents. There are some staff that don't have the care experience or staff. Their meals and cleanliness are good. It is a very calming place. There is a family council. There are minimal activities for the residents, just not a lot due to the pandemic. The communication with the staff is a little disappointing through their care app, as it can take awhile for them to respond via this channel.

This community did not meet my loved ones needs at the time that we were looking for a community. The tour was very good and great, and they gave a lot of information.
]name removed] did a great job showing me the community and helping me understand Terra Vista's mission. The quality of care was evident and the bird watching activities were great to witness. All of the staff seems to really care about the residents which was refreshing to see. I am so glad I came to tour Terra Vista.

They're good at distraction once my loved one gets onto something. They're also very good at keeping the residents active all day long. They have lots of activities. Everybody on staff has been very good. They keep in constant contact and are constantly sending videos and pictures of her doing her activities. I was very happy with the facility itself. All the other places I looked at had memory care on an upper floor where they were locked in with no outdoor space, and the hallways were dead ends, which isn't good for Alzheimer's patients. I like Terra Vista because it's a big, continuing hall with a great big courtyard. So she can spend most of her time outside, which is exactly what I was looking for.

The community tried to help my loved one eat in many ways. The staff was good at trying to include my loved one in games and other activities. They go above and beyond to help you and your loved one. The place is kept up very well. Everyone is very nice. The staff kept in touch with the family about their loved one. Once a month there was a family meeting with all the individuals involved in the care of my loved one. They provided virtual visits with our loved one, three times a week.

I looked at many facilities and I chose Terra Vista of Oakbrook Terrace because of research I did online and they came across as the most professional. I get communication from them everyday so they are great about that. I think it is a great value for the money and you get what you pay for. The staff members are providing top notch care and they clearly care about their residents. I would recommend them to others looking.

We chose Terra Vista because after seeing the virtual tour and speaking with the staff members we thought it would be a good fit. They have been extremely good with communication, we do face-times once a week and that has been very helpful. How the administration handles the staff speaks volumes to me about how well they will treat my loved one. will absolutely recommend them

This is a wonderful place for a physically healthy person with dementia. The aides are great at learning the unique needs of patients, and there are many activities. As patients functioning diminishes they are not as well prepared, especially when visitation is limited, as has happened with covid. There is not enough staff for assisting with feeding patients. There is not good physical assessments completed on patients. My mother would have unexplained bruises and cuts, and changes in behavior that were not addressed. Trying to get personal updates on residents could take days for responses to come from nursing staff. Communication was poor between different levels of caregivers. Aides would not be given information left with nurses and vice versa. Attempts to connect with a loved one was very challenging. COVID has presented daunting challenges but the communication was poor before this occurred. The facility looks amazing and again for an active patient with dementia it works well, but really think deeply about the fact that this disease causes total system failure and think if you will want to move your loved one again. If you won't then don' go there. The facility was kept very clean, but my mother was not. Her hands and nails were caked with food. Her walker and wheelchair would have food stuck all over it. The facility got norovirus infections and it tool a system wide infection before they started washing residents hands before meals and it quickly faded away again after the infection was over.

I think hands-on care is good. I think communication is poor between the employees. My mom likes the food. The room sizes and layout of the community are good. They are challenging to communicate with them about my mom's care. It is hard to get responses back.

My husband was there for a respite stay. For the most part they did the best they could. They were short-staffed and they did not have enough one on one care. The food was pretty good. The room sizes were great. The facility was beautiful the grounds were beautiful. The staff and management were accomodating and easy to work with.

I find the care exceptional. My wife has been there over two months and I visit her almost every day. Never have I seen her left in her room. She is always out with others often engaged in activities. People quickly learned her name and understood her likes and dislikes. Even the food servers will assist if my wife is in need of assistance. Every time I leave Terra Vista I am at ease because I know she is well cared for. I would highly recommend this facilities to others.

For those of you looking for an appropriate home for your loved one with Alzheimer’s or severe dementia, I can not recommend a better place than Terra Vista in Oakbrook Terrace. Unlike many retirement communities, Terra Vista is dedicated solely for people with dementia. The building is just over 2 years new, and it features a really nice courtyard. I won’t tell you that they are flawless, as they do have some minor issues. The caregivers here are wonderful, and they treat the residents like their own family. The most important thing that I would like to share is that you as a family member or spouse are very much a part of your loved ones’ comfort & well-being, no matter where you go. Words of wisdom, treat the caregivers with respect and gratitude, and your loved one will get the love and attention you want them to get. Bottom line..Terra Vista in Oakbrook Terrace is a wonderful choice.
