Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide residential living communities and health care to your loved one who require help with self-administering medication or dressing. Assisted living communities usually provide support with the activities of daily life, chances for recreational activity, and supervision of care. In certain cases, communities may provide nursing care, dementia care, or hospice. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois has a number of provisions related to this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health regulates this type of community. Staff are required to obtain training in a number of subjects. These include: resident rights, promotion of dignity, choice, and job responsibilities and limitations. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reading the medication label to residents, supervision of self-administered medications, and only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication reminders, housekeeping, emergency response systems, and medication administration. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A comprehensive assessment, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, and assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals.
