Arden Courts A ProMedica Memory Care Community in Geneva
4.6

Arden Courts Memory Care Community in Geneva is a wonderful location. My mother was here and it was the best place for her. I looked into 8 other locations and Arden Courts checked all the boxes for our family. Flexibility, concerns, comfort, compassion, going out of their way for your loved one. My mother's stay was during COVID and they all took extra precaution to ensure the safety of my mother and other residents. I could call day or night to see how my mother was. I was able to talk to her and follow up on what she was eating, her moods, sleeping habits and all my concerns were answered. When I was able to visit my mom, she was in good spirits and well-dressed and clean. I know she was getting the best care that she could receive as we could not care for her at home. The staff knew me very well and were kind to me and to all my questions and I cannot say enough, but Thank you for all you did for my mom!! Thank you!

Palos Heights Senior Living
4.8

I lived for 26 years in a townhome by Lake Katherine, just 6 blocks away. It's just myself and Giovanni, my 12 year old Italian Greyhound. My 2,050 sq feet home was just too much to keep up. Plus health issues made me want to downsize.i moved in on [date removed]. I just LOVE living here. Food is great, staff is amazing. I feel safe and I've made numerous friends. There are many amenities....I especially like the housekeeping. I would highly recommend Palos Heights Senior Living....it's a great alternative to living on your own. PS: being able to have my Dogson with me is a huge plus !!!

Ascension Living Bethlehem Woods Village in La Grange Park, IL

They have completely renovated our loved ones apartment so it is brand new and is quite nice. All of the staff members and the residents are very friendly and the home health care has really worked out great. The meals and dining service always looks very good, and she is enjoying the activities especially the bingo. We would absolutely recommend Ascension Living to other families, it has been a really good experience.

How people pay for memory care in Naperville

While the costs associated with memory care can be significant, numerous options are available to help families finance these essential services. From private payment methods and VA benefits to Medicaid and Medicare, a wide range of resources can be leveraged to pay for memory care.

In this section, we will dive into the specifics of each payment method to help you understand and navigate these resources. Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge and tools to make an informed decision about financing memory care for your loved one.

Private pay methods

One of the most straightforward options for paying for memory care is through private pay methods such as savings, pensions, and Social Security benefits. Additionally, many families consider alternative ways to privately fund memory care. Some consider selling a property or tapping into its equity through a reverse mortgage. Others turn to health savings accounts, life insurance policies, or long-term care insurance as funding sources.

Regardless of the chosen method, private pay gives families the flexibility and control to find and finance the memory care facility that best meets their loved one’s needs.

Understand Naperville laws and regulations for memory care facilities

Memory care facilities are governed by a specific set of laws and regulations to ensure residents’ well-being and safety. It’s crucial for you to be aware of these regulations when considering memory care facilities for your loved one. In Illinois, memory care facilities fall under the broader scope of assisted living, but there are some additional regulations due to the specialized nature of memory care.

Licensing and inspections

Assisted living facilities, including memory care facilities, in Illinois must be licensed. These facilities undergo Life Safety Code/physical environment inspections that are conducted by the Illinois Department of Public Health’s (IDPH) Design and Construction Section as a part of the licensing process. IDPH also performs regular unannounced visits to verify compliance with the requirements and standards associated with licensure.

While direct online access to inspection reports and licenses isn’t available, you may file a Freedom of Information Act Request to procure these records. This process grants individuals legal access to inspect government records.

Regulations

Memory care facilities follow the general regulations for assisted living in addition to more specific guidelines tailored to residents with memory impairments. These regulations address staffing, training, and care plan development. Regulations include the following:

  • Memory care facilities must have staff available 24/7, with at least one staff member awake, on duty, and on-site at all times.
  • Staff members must undergo specific training to meet the needs of residents with cognitive impairments, including orientation to the characteristics and needs of the establishment’s residents and ongoing training in areas such as infection control, disaster procedures, and assisting residents with activities of daily living.
  • A service plan is a crucial aspect of memory care. It is developed in mutual agreement by the resident, their representative, the establishment’s manager, and a registered nurse. This plan addresses the level of service the resident receives, the type and frequency of health-related services needed, and who is responsible for providing the service plan. The service plan is reviewed annually (or more often if the resident’s condition, preferences, or service needs change).
  • Facilities that offer special programs for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia must disclose this information and follow specific guidelines. These guidelines ensure the safety of all residents, the coordination of communication with each resident and their representative, appropriate cognitive stimulation, and the development of emergency procedures.

COVID-19 regulations for Naperville memory care facilities

Although there are no COVID-19 rules and regulations specifically for memory care facilities in Naperville, it’s crucial to stay informed by reaching out to individual facilities for any updated guidelines. In DuPage County, adhering to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines is recommended.

Vaccinations.

The CDC strongly recommends keeping vaccinations and boosters current to protect personal health and prevent transmission.

Facility cleanliness.

Facilities must take necessary steps to guarantee proper ventilation and consistent sanitization of high-touch surfaces and common areas.

Masking.

Wearing masks in public is recommended by the CDC, but it is not mandatory.

Staff safety.

To protect the health and safety of residents, it may be necessary to implement regular COVID-19 testing and provide access to personal protective equipment.

Prioritized safety and security

In Naperville, memory care is often incorporated within assisted living communities, though there are nine standalone partner memory care facilities. These communities prioritize the safety and well-being of residents, with dedicated care provided around the clock — meaning someone is always on hand for those who may experience disorientation or confusion. Additionally, many of our partner communities have advanced safety features, such as wander management systems, to ensure residents’ safety and families’ peace of mind. With these resources readily available, individuals and their families can have confidence in their choice of care provider.

Focused health care and support

Memory care facilities in Naperville are committed to delivering specialized health care and support. Most staff members are trained specifically for memory care and provide services to manage anxiety, aggression, and agitation. Several facilities also offer care for exit-seeking behaviors, restlessness, pacing, and wandering.

Health care services are well-rounded, with almost all facilities offering full medication management. Also, most facilities have a doctor on call; on-site nursing; and a visiting physical therapist, occupational therapist, and speech therapist. This robust team of medical support ensures residents receive the care they need within the comfort of a familiar environment.

Diverse styles and amenities

Memory care facilities in Naperville offer a range of living options — from luxury amenities to more budget-conscious choices — ensuring there’s something for everyone. Many of Naperville’s memory care communities offer a variety of life-enriching amenities, such as arts-and-crafts centers, game rooms, and cafes or bistros, providing opportunities for residents to engage in enjoyable and stimulating activities.

Many of our partner senior living establishments provide a range of exclusive amenities to improve residents’ quality of life. Private dining rooms allow family and friends to share meals more intimately. Libraries provide a comfortable, quiet environment for the avid reader to explore their favorite books. Additionally, TV lounges offer residents a welcoming place to watch their favorite shows or films with others. All of these amenities promote a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle for residents — without requiring them to travel.
