A suburb of Chicago, Naperville offers big city amenities and attractions at a suburban speed. The Naperville Public Library system is consistently ranked as one of the top library systems in the country. The Nichols Library, the Naper Boulevard Library, and the 95th street library contain over 150,000 square feet of shelving space with nearly 5 million items in circulation. There are also a number of artistic opportunities in the city including the annual Naperville Independent Film Festival, which features the work of independent filmmakers from both the local community and around the world. The Naperville Municipal Band, formed in 1859, puts on a number of concerts and events throughout the year including a summer concert series in Naperville’s Central Park. For those who are fans of architecture, the Naperville Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The neighborhood contains 613 houses that are considered historic locations. The Moser Tower and Millennium Carillon was constructed in 1999 to celebrate the third millennium, and earned the city the designation as a White House Millennium Community. The Carillon is one of the largest musical structures of its kind on the entire planet. The Naperville Riverwalk is a 1.75 mile trail that contains many points of interest, including shops and restaurants. The Riverwalk was built in 1981 to commemorate the city’s 150th anniversary. The DuPage Children’s Museum provides fun and educational opportunities for the whole family. For outdoor recreation there is the Naper Settlement, which is a 12-acre outdoor history museum. The settlement features pioneer reenactors and over 30 historical buildings.


The city of Naperville has two Metra stations which provide commuter rail service to and from Naperville via the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) rail line. The lines connect Naperville to Chicago in the east and Aurora in the west. Regular service is offered throughout the day and express service is available during morning and evening rush hours.
