Assisted living communities provide regular social interaction and apartment style housing as well as individualized care. Assisted living communities commonly provide help with daily activities, help with appointments and transportation, and chances for social activity. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication administration, assistance with activities of daily living, medication reminders, and emergency response systems. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reading the medication label to residents, only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications, and medication administration. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Staff members receive education in a number of fields. These areas include internal policies, resident rights, job responsibilities and limitations, and promotion of dignity.
