Independent Living

An Independent Living Community provides residents the ability to continue to live an independent lifestyle while ensuring their care requirements are being met. Basic chores such as meal planning and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and leisure activities is maintained, allowing residents the autonomy to use their time as they see fit, free from daily obligations. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to be among peers, surrounded by others of similar ages and interests. Residents’ quarters consist of private living spaces, each with their own kitchen. The independence of apartment life is still enjoyed, offering an opportunity to socialize with guests and visitors in a private and personal setting. While policies vary between locations, many residences allow cats and dogs as well. If residents decide they would like to enlist the services of private medical providers, they may always do so. There are a number of expenditures and advantages to keep in mind when deciding on an independent living community. It is important to figure out if these services are covered in your care plan: utilities, move-in fee, cable TV, initial assessment fee, private phone, internet access, transportation, and wellness program. The benefits that pertain to independent living include fitness center & swimming pool, game/TV room, community activities, healthcare center, beauty salon & barber shop, concierge services, private rental hall, and restaurant-style dining hall.
