Well, right off the bat, I would say the pictures online were a turn off and it looked a lot more dumpy than it actually is. I think it is a mid scale environment compared to some others. But, I also find it Homey and well kept. The staff are easy to communicate as they give out cell phone numbers and have no problem texting at any time of the day or night. I would recommend the facility so far. Obviously if somebody is looking for very upscale, then they will know right away this is not for them. But like I said, I like the environment I think it is very pretty and homey. My one complaint is they don't really have a great call system in place. They have one cord in the studio and one in the bathroom. My aunt's mobility is not great, so there's nothing in place for her to call them if she can't reach the cord, which is usually! I've only been present during a few meals, and to me the food looks good. But my aunt dislikes the food. The nice thing, though is they have a whole menu of options that could be ordered as substitutes.

The staff has shifted since we first got there (new director, new nursing leadership). There were some missteps early on with our contract and pricing but it's been resolved. The facility is clean. Staff is friendly. Food is meh! I would recommend Generations Oakton Arms, out of all of the facilities that we saw, this was definitely the best one for the price.

Finding a safe and friendly place for my single senior sibling
My brother is in Independent Living at Generations Oakton Arms. After living with my parents for many years, I needed a place that would keep my brother safe, healthy and happy. Generations Oakton Arms is a perfect fit. After looking at several places, we found that Generations had a confident staff to move him in. All of our expectations and special needs were met. My brother has been pleased with the meals, which include adequate portions and nice varieties. I can not comment on housekeeping, but everything that I have seen is very well maintained. The overall expenses are average yet competitively priced to similar places. I have visited places that offer more, however those monthly prices are also very much higher. As for Generations Oakton Arms: activities, safety protocols, good food, friendly staff and residents, I could not ask for more, for my brother.

Okay Community
This is an average community and experience for us. My loved one doesn't enjoy the food, and the food quality could be improved for the residents. The community could also improve their dietary restrictions for the resident's dietary needs. The staff communication has been okay with the family.

Our experience at Generations
The biggest issue we have had is there is a tremendous amount of turnover in the staff. The head nurse we initially absolutely loved and she ended up leaving. The executive director who gave us the tour we also really liked and she left as well. It makes it difficult to really get to know the staff and get comfortable.

Oakton Arms is great-not so impressed with Oakton Pavilion
My mom has lived at Generations for a few years so please understand that there are two buildings...one is fantastic, Oakton Arms which is independent and assisted living. The other, Oakton Pavilion is a nursing home and is not as great. My mom started in independent living until it became clear that she couldn't do things as independently as we had thought so she moved to the assisted living floor. The staff is wonderful! The nurses and caregivers are so attentive and caring as are all the other staff in the building. They were very careful during covid and had minimal cases. They are getting back to "normal" now and my mom is so happy to be eating in the dining room and enjoying activities with her friends. She had a short stay at Pavilion and we were very unimpressed with the lack of communication from staff but maybe we were just expecting too much. Oakton Arms is very reasonably priced for an assisted living in this area and still has everything you want/need. Very happy here.

Review of Oakton Arms assisted living
My husband was moved into their assisted living this past January. I also live in their independent living facility. The senior living community had great service and caring staff until this past few months. Food was great and everything was well run until this point. After the assisted living was opened on their 4th floor and they hired a bunch of unprofessional nursing staff, things are going down the drain here. My husband has early stages of dementia and the staff on his floor do not care for him at all. Last week, I saw a caregiver in the morning being rough with him while dressing him up before breakfast. He told her to stop and to be slow, but she didn't bother. I also had a question for their nurse that morning about his medications and she did not seem to know what was going on with health. The nurse just comes and hands him the medication, but when we ask what medication are you giving him, she has does not know. This place has become awfully bad and they need to hire some professional staff.

Great value and support
My mother has been living here for two years now and it is great. The rooms are large, the staff is so helpful and accommodating. She has a 1-bedroom, which is terrific. If she is under the weather, they bring lunch and dinner to her and she loves the food. I really can only think of good things to say.

Care and comfort
We were at this community for care for a time period. The staff was nice and the community was always clean. The menu seemed appealing and they offered activities. We wanted a different environment. We would suggest that families tour this community for the care of a loved one for the options that are available for care.

We are so thankful that we found this place for my mom and dad. From the moment we walked in and were greeted by Kelly it felt right. Kelly made everything go smooth and she is wonderful. Their apt is beautiful and large. Everyone is helpful and friendly. The pharmacy service and transportation service is great. We thought it would be very hard for my parents to adjust since until their accident 4 months before they had their own home and car. This is not the case they are very very happy and have adjusted well. We dont have any complaints and highly recommend Oakton Arms.

Wonderful!
Things were wonderful when my step-mother was at Generations Oakton Arms. They jumped right in to help. The place is amazingly clean. Too clean even to my step-mom who tended to be a hoarder. The staff was very friendly. Kelly went out of her way to introduce my step-mom to all the ladies at the dining table, that was wonderful that she took the time to do that, my step-mom really appreciated it. They did outings to go out to lunch some days, she really liked that. I was very satisfied witht this community and would definitely choose them again in the future. I had to bring my step-mom back home for the time being. But if needed again would like her back at Generations. A Place For Mom was also wonderful, helped when my step-mom was being released from the hospital early and I needed the help finding a great place for her to go.

After one month, parent and children happy with choice.
My mother has been at Oakton Arms for three weeks. My family's overall impression has been very positive. I don't feel I could give Oakton Arms five stars only because my mom has only been there three weeks. This is a smaller facility with a smaller population than the two local Brookdale facilities that we visited. This was a positive for my mother as she found the Brookdale facilities a little to busy for her taste. There are still plenty of people to socialize with, and mom seems to be making new friends. The staff has been very friendly to our entire family. They answered countless questions before mom moved in, and she reports they continue to be friendly and helpful to her. One of the things my mom was concerned with was what the quality of food would be. I am happy to report she is quite pleased with the food. My sister has joined her for two meals and said she was pleasantly surprised with the quality. Oakton Arms was the best value of the places we were considering. They included some services that were ala carte at other facilities. All in all, my mother's experience has been very positive. Although she was nervous about leaving her condo and the familiarity that went with it, both she, I and my siblings are happy with her move to Oakton Arms. She is getting needs met that she was not at her condo. Mainly, social interaction, regular meals and safety features. We, her children, are happy she can get help with just simple things. Recently, a staff member fixed her television remote for her. If you've ever tried to explain to a senior citizen how to program a remote over the phone, you'll know how huge that is. Obviously, tastes are different, so you should definitely visit a few sites. I would recommend not visiting more than two a day. It gets overwhelming, and its hard to remember which facility had which services.

My grandma has lived at Generations - Oakton Arms since May of last year. The decision to move to a senior community was difficult for my grandma at first, but living at Oakton has made all of that difficulty disappear. Grandma loves her new friends and spends her days "on the go" enjoying all of the activities the building plans for its residents. Grandma enjoys her neighbors and all of the residents look out for each other, creating a strong and vibrant community. Even better, Oakton encourages Grandma to stay independent. Each of the resident rooms/apartments are spacious and comfortably set up to encourage residents to be as independent as possible. The individual kitchens are great for small snacks and the facility provides delicious and healthy meals for both lunch and dinner. Grandma eats her meals with a wonderful group of ladies who love to have friends and family join them at meal times. The staff at Oakton have also been incredible about meeting Grandma's needs. They are always friendly and warm when we come visit and they are wonderful at working with us to accommodate Grandma's prescription deliveries from the local Walgreens. They even helped keep an eye on Grandma the last time she had a cold, when my family was out of town on our last vacation. Even more important, the staff treat my Grandma like she matters. She isn't just another senior, but a person who deserves respect. Grandma has become their family and I couldn't be happier with the place she now calls home.

A Place for Mom has scored Generations Oakton Arms 8.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
