Assisted living communities arrange organized living communities and assistance to your loved one who require help with taking medication or showering. Assisted living communities frequently offer care supervision, opportunities for recreational activity, and help with the activities of daily life. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer “aging in place”, Alzheimer’s care, or hospice. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. The state of Florida has a number of provisions associated with this type of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation regulates this type of community. Staff members receive training in a number of areas. These include: emergency evacuation, resident behavior and needs, universal precautions, and resident abuse, neglect, and and exploitation. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication, reading the label, and placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s health care provider for residents who require special diets, meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities , and meals must be adapted to residents’ food habits. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as medical examination report, community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community , communities must document such assessment, and monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician . This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care services, assistance with activities of daily living , assistance with self-administration of medications, and nursing services.
