Assisted living communities offer organized living communities and assistance for your loved one who might require a helping hand with everyday activities such as cooking or dressing. The services offered often involve assistance with ADLs. Occupants may be kept under observation and assessment. In certain instances, communities may offer dementia care, respite, or nursing care. The state of Connecticut maintains specific statutes associated with this type of community. The Department of Public Health, community Licensing certifies this community type. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as he program must be reviewed as the resident’s condition requires, plan must include types and frequency of services needed, plan must include information about the resident’s problems and needs, and RN conducts consultation with the resident. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide residents with three meals per day. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include provision of care and services to residents whose conditions are chronic and stable, delegation of supervision of self-administered medications, health promotion, and resident teaching. Staff must receive training in a number of fields. These include: assisted living philosophy, aides must pass a competency exam, applicable regulations, and community policies and procedures. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration , opening medication packages, and assistance with self-administration of medications. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver programs and through the non-Medicaid state-funded Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day.
