Assisted living communities have the luxury of coordinated social interaction and apartment style housing as well as personalized assistance. The types of service offered often involve aid with the activities of daily life. Inhabitants may be kept under observation and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer dementia care, continuing care, or respite. The annual median cost for a private room is around $166,988 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $152,388 . The state of Connecticut maintains a number of stipulations associated with this type of community. The Department of Public Health, community Licensing governs this type of community. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as he program must be reviewed as the resident’s condition requires, RN conducts consultation with the resident, plan must include types and frequency of services needed, and plan must include information about the resident’s problems and needs. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver programs and through the non-Medicaid state-funded Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide residents with three meals per day. Staff must receive education in a variety of areas. These include: community policies and procedures, 10-hour orientation, assisted living philosophy, and applicable regulations. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration , assistance with self-administration of medications, and verifying. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include resident teaching, provision of care and services to residents whose conditions are chronic and stable, nursing services, and delegation of supervision of self-administered medications.
