Assisted living communities offer social interaction, care, and oversight to persons who are around 65 years of age or older. Assisted living communities commonly provide chances for organized activity, aid with the activities of daily life, and help with appointments and transit. In certain cases, communities may provide skilled nursing, dementia care, or hospice. In Michigan, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $48,000 . The state of Michigan maintains a number of stipulations related to this kind of community. The Department of Human Services licenses regulates this community type. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include three daily meals and snacks must be provided, communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional, and Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as service plan takes into account the preferences and competency of the resident, service plan identifies the individual’s specific needs for care, A comprehensive written assessment that that describes prescribed treatments and medications that must be provided to the community prior to admission, and The home must complete a service plan in cooperation with each resident and/or their representative. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminding a resident to maintain his/her medication schedule in accordance with the prescription, medication supervision and administration, and proper training of direct care workers to handle and administer medications. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assisting a resident to keep appointments, medication management, being aware of a resident’s general whereabouts, and supporting a resident’s personal and social needs. Staff members receive education in a variety of fields. These areas include residents rights and responsibilities, staff training program based on the home’s program statement, reporting requirements and documentation, and first-aid. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan.
