Assisted living communities administer personal care, social interaction, and supervision to individuals who are around 65 years of age or older. The services offered often include help with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under observation and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer nursing, hospice, or dementia care. In Michigan, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $48,000 . Michigan has specific regulations related to this type of community. The Department of Human Services licenses regulates this community type. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as service plan identifies the individual’s need for services, The home must complete a service plan in cooperation with each resident and/or their representative, service plan identifies the individual’s specific needs for care, and service plan takes into account the preferences and competency of the resident. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include guidance, assisting a resident to keep appointments, medication management, and supporting a resident’s personal and social needs. Staff must obtain training in a variety of fields. These areas include first-aid, standard precautions, residents rights and responsibilities, and containment of infectious disease.
