Assisted living communities arrange residential living communities and assistance to seniors who may require help with self-administering medication or dressing. The types of service provided often include support with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide Alzheimer’s care, continuing care, or nursing. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois has a number of provisions related to this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this community type. Staff members obtain education in a variety of areas. These include: neglect prevention, privacy, choice, and disaster procedures. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication administration, security, medication reminders, and supervision of self-administered medications. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include observing the resident, reading the medication label to residents, and medication reminders. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, and provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room.
