Assisted living communities administer social events, personal care, and oversight to persons who are about 65 years old. Services provided often involve support with ADLs. Occupants may be kept under observation and assessment. In some situations, communities may provide dementia care, nursing care, or respite. In Connecticut, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $58,560 . The state of Connecticut has specific statutes related to this type of community. The Department of Public Health, community Licensing supervises this type of community. Staff must receive education in a number of subjects. These include: 10-hour orientation, assisted living philosophy, applicable regulations, and community policies and procedures. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as plan must include types and frequency of services needed, medications, treatments, and other required nursing services, he program must be reviewed as the resident’s condition requires, and RN conducts consultation with the resident. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include delegation of supervision of self-administered medications, wellness counseling, disease prevention, and provision of care and services to residents whose conditions are chronic and stable. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance with self-administration of medications, medication administration , and opening medication packages. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver programs and through the non-Medicaid state-funded Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide residents with three meals per day.
