Tour of The Carrington

The Carrington at Lincolnwood is absolutely beautiful. It is new and clean and they have a ton of amenities provided for residents. Our loved one needed a higher level of care and would not have been able to use those amenities which is why we kept looking.

The food is good but sometimes with the service they get the orders wrong and the meals have to be redone. However, our loved ones absolutely love The Carrington, they have high ceilings and nice wide hallways. The apartments have nice big windows that brings in a lot of bright and natural light. Also, every time we go to visit everyone is out of their rooms, mingling and playing games which we really like to see.
They Have Done a Really Good Job at Taking Care of Mom

The service in the dining room has been relatively poor due to not enough staff. The community has done great at the reopening of the community and dining room. They did a great job at keeping the residents and staff safe during COVID.
They are occasionally running low on supplies for nursing care.

I think this is a good option, and especially considering they are doing a lifetime rate lock-in presently. the facilities and care seem great, its a larger community but new so there is diversity in the residents. The pool is nice, as are the apartments (including ADA). Only drawback is no staffed coffee shop.

I chose The Carrington at Lincolnwood because it was a newer facility as well as the fact that it is open and spacious. The apartment sizes here are excellent for what I need. It has been a good experience and I would recommend to others looking.

A Good Home Away From Home For Retirees

At first we couldn't visit inside during Covid, so we had outdoor visits, which they later moved indoors to the restaurant area when it got colder The staff was very friendly. Everyone went out of their way to be friendly and cordial. They knew my name and my loved one's name, and I was only there once a month. So I thought that was outstanding. Come to found out later, we received a letter asking for gratuities based on level of care required for your loved one- which probably went to the aides and such. But still, that was a bit of a disappointment. But overall the staff was very good and very helpful. Everyone knew their jobs. They were courteous and tried to work with you. Sometimes I wish they had gotten back to me sooner, especially when trying to schedule visits. So I think communication could be a little better. I just felt that they were understaffed. Meals were okay, and they were brought to the rooms during Covid. Activities were limited, and we were promised once our loved one moved from the independent side to the assisted side that he could be brought over to the independent side to play pool, but I don't think that ever did happened.
Caring place for family members Katherine - Child of resident/client

The Carrington is a great place

I’ve been here in Independent Living for 2-1/2 years and I’m very happy here. I chose The Carrington because it was close to family and was built for senior living not a conversion from other types of buildings. The staff is fantastic and always there to help. The amenities are great and the apartments are very nice. During the past several months with Covid they have taken great care to protect us and keep us safe. They coordinated with a provider to get us our vaccinations right here. I am very happy and grateful that I found such a caring wonderful place to live. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, fantastic place to live.

Overall we have been very happy with them, and the care services are excellent. Unfortunately due to covid the dining room has been closed, but they are delivering the food to their rooms and they still seem to be pretty good, and we think the value is reasonable.
Highly recommend George E - Child of resident/client
We chose The Carington at Lincolnwood because it was a new facility and it was built to be what it was. A lot of what we looked at were converted from hotels and such. The apartment sizes are very good. Being fairly new, it was easy to acclimate and make new friends because everyone was pretty new. I would recommend without reservation.
Great apartments but have had issues

My mother-in-law is in the Independent Living area. Her apartment is great with brand new kitchens and baths. The front desk staff takes good care of her and they have great amenities. The food service has been terrible. They change chefs constantly, no consistency in the food, she gets it delivered hours later or they forget to deliver until she calls and she never spends her full food budget each month. Their communication on COVID has been lacking. We do see how many cases (the staff, memory care and assisted living had quite a few) but no updates on when my MIL will get the vaccine and we're already moving on to Phase 2 in IL. Still I feel she is safe and secure.

Vanessa, thank you for sharing your comments about The Carrington. We like to hear that your mother-in-law is enjoying the overall experience of being a resident. We have been sharing community updates twice a week that are delivered directly to residents’ apartments and forwarded to families via email. These updates include information about planning and preparation for the vaccine. We also have an app that can be downloaded to smartphones to receive announcements.
COVID has certainly presented challenges with regards to service delivery. However, we have been delivering 3 meals a day to all residents since March 2020 and making adjustments to the program based on resident feedback.
If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please call Tom Whitaker, Executive Director, at [removed].

The Carrington at Lincolnwood has done an amazing job with COVID. They have had very few cases and are doing a great job with keeping all of the residents safe. They are doing outside visits with your loved one during these times. We chose this facility because the location to family and it just seemed to be a good fit my sister. The best part is having the comfort and security of knowing my sister is safe. She has also made friends within the community. I would highly recommend it.
I would recommend The Carrington with some cited issues

We chose The Carrington because we thought price was reasonable, the location, and the facility itself was very nice. The staff members were friendly. The food was superior and so was the food service hours. Overall, the first impression was nice but diminished as time went on. We did have issues with the food service and it ended up being more expensive than we thought and more complicated. Also, the assisted living facility was not inviting, independent living seemed great though. The reason I gave lower scores was because my mother took a fall and had to leave early and they charged us for the facility even though she was not using it. I wish they were a little more flexible. I would recommend for independent living, but not assisted living. The issues we had can all be addressed or corrected though.

Everything about The Carrington is outstanding. The building and the grounds are impeccably maintained; staff is to a person, cordial and professional and dining service is excellent with a wide selection (even during Covid challenges). Care and effort to keep things "nice" were evident. Residents are active, interested and interesting people. I have not been disappointed by my choice to live here!

I feel so fortunate that for the past 2 years I have been a part of a people and community focused environment. The spirit is friendly, attentive, responsive and empathic. We reach toward one another. The interior spaces also reflect this spirit - made spacious art filled hallways, full gym, salt water pool, movie theater, 3 gracious dining rooms. Love watching mama and baby ducklings and goslings in the retention pond outside our 30 foot balcony. Favorite activities : Variety of classes, Happy hours, entertainment and culture focused day trips. Come join us!

Almost at my 2 -mark of living at the Carrington, and I can honestly say moving here was an exceptionally good decision. Even under the influence of our current pandemic, the administration has been very transparent and have made good decisions for all the residents. Keeping us up to date on mask wearing, social distancing and testing. We are a diverse population and have been able to feel very welcome in all activities and listened to at the resident's meetings. With a strong resident council that work with us all to bring our ideas to the administration. The apartments, be it a studio, one bedroom or two bedrooms are complete with everything from a dishwasher to laundry. The bathrooms are spacious, and the patios or balconies are large and a real bonus in allowing a view of nature. I can honestly say you will find many things to take part in and enjoy in the
5 -star community.

I and my wife, Ikuko Ogasawara Nutkowitz Ph.D., moved into Independent Living at The Carrington at Lincolnwood, a suburb of Chicago, in December, 2018. My wife was 84 years old and her health had declined in early 2018. I spoke with our son, [name removed], who lives in Chicago, and I asked him to research continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) in the Chicago area. He located two possible CCRCs for us. They each had an indoor swimming pool and gym/fitness center, which I would be able to use. My wife and I visited The Carrington, which is a relatively new community, in the summer of 2018. We decided to move into a two-bedroom apartment at The Carrington. In July, 2019, my wife's health deteriorated to the point that my son and I decided to move her into an apartment in Memory Care, and I moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Independent Living I feel fortunate that The Carrington had a Memory Care facility. My wife had been diagnosed in 2018 with Alzheimer's disease, and in addition to a loss of short term memory, and being confused, she had also become incontinent and needed to use a diaper. In Memory Care, she was seen once every two hours by a certified nursing assistant who checked on her diaper. On [date removed], my wife, who had Hospice Care, died peacefully. The management at The Carrington was very supportive and helpful all during this difficult time.
I intend to continue to live at The Carrington, in part because I have access to public talks and possible volunteer activities, at nearby Northwestern University, and at The Chicago Council on Global Affairs. The management provides social and recreation opportunities to facilitate socialization with other residents. For all of the above reasons, I rate this community at Very Good.

We have lived here for 2 years. They are the happiest years of our lives! The activities are neverending, including weekly and daily concerts, lectures, classes, and movies. The fitness center with the 80-degree saltwater pool will rival any health club. Most importantly are the wonderful friendships we've formed with the very diverse and interesting fellow residents of equal importance is the friendly, kinda, caring, and always helpful remarkable staff!
