Assisted living communities provide a sense of community as well as personalized help. Assisted living communities frequently offer opportunities for social activity, help with transit and appointments, and supervision of care. These provisions include medication reminders, supervision of self-administered medications, and only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with activities of daily living, non-medical services, laundry, and security. Staff must receive education in a number of areas. These areas include choice, self-determination, reporting, and disaster procedures.
