Assisted living communities administer recreational activities, supervision, and personal care to persons who are about 65 years old. The types of service provided often involve aid with the activities of daily life. Residents may be kept under observation and assessment. In certain cases, communities may provide respite, dementia care, or skilled nursing care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Staff members receive education in a number of subjects. These include: promotion of dignity, infection control, resident rights, and self-determination. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include supervision of self-administered medications, medication administration, and documenting whether or not the resident took the medication. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include emergency response systems, laundry, supervision of self-administered medications, and medication administration. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program.
