Welcome to Porter Place Memory Care in Tinley Park, Illinois. This community is located in a southern suburb of Chicago — near the land of deep-dish pizza and the great Cubs and White Sox rivalry. Porter Place Memory Care is a pet-friendly community that exclusively serves residents experiencing memory loss. They specialize in providing person-centered care and individualized resident programming, to create a loving atmosphere that can be felt throughout the entire community.
While Porter Place Memory Care exclusively serves residents with memory loss, they provide some additional specialized services as well such as ambulatory care, diabetic care, personal care, and medication management. Staff are specially trained in memory care and a variety of community specialists are available for supplemental care as needed. Hospice is available on-site for residents who require end-of-life care, with the aim of keeping them comfortable, relaxed, and in good spirits.
All residents enjoy three meals per day in the restaurant-style dining room. Response from Porter Place Memory Care
November 23, 2022Linda, Thank you for your 4 star review. Your feedback is very beneficial to the Porter Place team. I would like to learn more about your experience so we can improve our process for future residents. Please reach out to me at the community so we can discuss further. Thank you.
Many times the planned activity on the schedule was cancelled or the staff was unaware of it. I went down there with my loved one so it wasn't them telling me I saw it first hand. My loved one has social issues and has a hard time with activities. Not much they are interested in doesn't like TV much. Reads little. No games or puzzles. My loved one can be hard to entertain. It's a great place for my loved one no doubt. That's what I would say. Everyone seems so nice there. Great communication all around. Great people to work with. [name removed] is the best.

November 23, 2022Thank you for your review. All feedback is greatly appreciated and we would like to learn more about your situation and how we can make your experience at Porter Place better. Please reach out to me at the community so we can discuss further. Thank you.
I chose Porter Place Memory Care because I liked being able to see how everyone was treated during my walk through. I like that it was not separated by different floors and things like that so I could see where he was going to be. Every one of the staff has been extremely helpful. My only complaint is that he was not eating or drinking and I was not notified about it quickly enough. Otherwise they called quite a bit with other updates and were good with communication. Overall I would recommend Porter Place for those looking for memory care.

Response from Porter Place Memory Care
November 9, 2022We want to take the time to thank you for leaving a positive review! Here at Porter Place, we pride ourselves on giving excellent care to our residents and their loved ones. We always have room for improvement and your feedback is invaluable. I will review with the team. Thank you!
The administrator is hands on. She knows every client by name and genuinely cares. The nursing staff stay on top of issues with a residents health and are proactive. Everyone speaks to the residents by name (including the laundry and kitchen staff). They get to really know the residents and keep them engaged.

Our experience with Porter Place Memory Care has been really good so far, no big concerning complaint's whatsoever. The staff members have been really good towards our loved one and super friendly. The meals and dining service is sometimes a hit or miss so that could be improved. They do offer a lot of different activities for the residents, but we do wish they would encourage our loved one to get involved a little bit more. However we would still recommend this community to other families.

I was not pleased with the lack of services provided at Porter Place. They have a bunch of amenities they show you when you go to tour and when she moved in I would go visit and she would be sitting there by herself. The last straw was she told me her feet were hurting, I took her shoes off and they were extremely swollen and she needed to go to the hospital. I took her out of here after [date removed] and they still charged me for the whole month.
Our family had an in person tour and it was a very nice tour, but they were just not able to accept our loved one due to psychiatric health issues.
Porter Place was a very nice and clean community that works for residents who are not fall risks and are able to safely move around on their own. The director, staff, and personnel were all very friendly. But because my mom has dementia and is a very high fall risk she suffered a very bad fall during the night. Because she was not monitored closely enough during the night, I had to take her out of Porter Place and bring her back home. If they would allow bed alarms or able to monitor residents who are fall risks more closely throughout the night, or provide beds that could be lowered at night to prevent falls, then this would provide for a much more safer environment.

Porter Place memory care is an excellent facility. The thing that sticks out to us most is the staff members, they are all so kind and caring towards the residents. I would absolutely recommend this facility to other families looking.

This community was okay but there was another community that made us more comfortable that we ended up going with.

So far things are ok and she seems to be adjusting well. It is always clean and fresh whenever I go to visit. Staff are very personable and caring towards the residents. There are some things I have not been very pleased with, a lot of her personal items have been lost or taken. I pay extra for her level of care and I think they try to do their best, but it could be improved. Just make sure to advocate for your loved one.
We chose Porter Place because of the ease of getting him in and the overall friendliness and willingness to work with us. They are very transparent, willing to work with you, and compassionate and concerned. The nurses are not shy about calling if there are any changes or concerns. They would do things like zooms, phone calls, emails, etc. so they were great with communication. I would tell others if you have any doubts, you shouldn't. The level of safety that they provide is excellent. It is pricey but what you get as far as the care in the long run when you consider it it is worth it. I would highly recommend them to others families.

I would not recommend Porter Place for a situation where one partner has dementia and the other does not. There was a lack of activities, with nothing to engage the partner without dementia, and she was conscious/aware of it. So it was especially hard for her. It was difficult on the family that we could only do outside visits for a time, but then they had to stop those due to the weather. So our interaction with the staff was primarily via phone. There was a lot of Covid going around, and I feel like their protocol to handle it was not good. Medically, they did not handle it well. Both my loved ones were showing symptoms, and Porter Place did not have them tested. We only found out after one of them was hospitalized for something unrelated that she tested positive, so we then had the other tested, and he tested positive as well but stayed at the community. In zoom calls, he didn't look well. It didn't appear that they were treating his Covid adequately, especially considering his high risk status. They only hospitalized him after he collapsed on the floor. My loved one without dementia reported to me that she did not get enough care. She had more physical needs, rather than dementia related needs. There were some great caregivers there, and some that she really liked. They were just understaffed. They also did not do much of anything to encourage guided activities, which I expected for brain engagement with dementia patients, especially after all the activities they described during the touring process before we moved in. The discrepancy could have been due to Covid, but still, I expected more.

It is really clean, they have a full nursing staff even overnight. They have a lot of activities, crafts, movie nights, We looked at about 12 places in the surrounding area and Porter Place really stood out. The rooms are good sized and the layout od the community is good.

Porter Place is a good place. No place is perfect. They take very good care of my mom. They do not have enough variety in the food. The layout of the community and room sizes are good. The staff is good, they are very attentive. The executive director listens to you.
