Assisted living communities have the luxury of apartment style housing and social interaction as well as personalized care. The types of service provided often include support with the activities of daily life. Residents may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In some cases, communities may provide hospice, continuing care, or Alzheimer’s care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois has a number of stipulations associated with this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication administration, housekeeping, emergency response systems, and security. Staff members receive education in a variety of areas. These include: hygiene, infection control, choice, and promotion of dignity. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, A comprehensive assessment, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, and assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition.
