Assisted living communities arrange residential living communities and health care to persons who might require help with everyday activities such as washing or cooking. Services offered often involve help with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, skilled nursing care, or hospice. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois has a number of stipulations associated with this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health regulates this type of community. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include observing the resident, medication reminders, and documenting whether or not the resident took the medication. Staff members obtain training in a number of subjects. These include: resident rights, independence, residents’ need and service plans, and internal policies. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A comprehensive assessment, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, and provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication administration, housekeeping, security, and medication reminders.
