Assisted living communities offer residential living communities and aid to seniors who require support with everyday activities such as showering or dressing. Assisted living communities frequently provide aid with daily activities, chances for leisurely activity, and assistance with transit and appointments. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer nursing, dementia care, or hospice. In Georgia, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $135,450 . Georgia has a number of stipulations related to this kind of community. The Department of Community Health licenses assisted living communities and personal care homes regulates this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assisted living care, administration of medications by a certified medication aide, described as personal services, and the provision of assisted self-preservation. Staff are required to obtain training in a number of subjects. These areas include 24 hours of continuing education during the first year and 16 hours annually thereafter, assisting residents in transferring and ambulation, emergency preparedness, and provision of resident care that is individualized and helpful. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment to determine the resident’s functional capacity with regard to ADLs, care plan must be updated at least annually and when there is a change in the resident’s needs, whether family supports are available, and personal preferences relative to care needs. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand, assisting with an Epi pen, and applying topical medications. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Medicaid Waiver programs- ) the Community Care Services Program is managed by the Department of Community Health’s Division of Medical Assistance Plans and partners with the Division of Aging Services and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE) program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals, one nutritious snack, and any therapeutic diets ordered by a resident’s health care provider must be provided each day. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 25.
