Assisted living communities arrange residential living communities and assistance for your loved one who might require a helping hand with everyday activities such as showering or dressing. Assisted living communities frequently provide help with appointments and transit, help with the activities of daily life, and care supervision. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer Alzheimer’s care, continuing care, or respite. The monthly median cost for a private room is around $13,916 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $12,699 . The state of Connecticut maintains specific statutes related to this type of community. The Department of Public Health, community Licensing supervises this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminding residents to take medications, opening medication packages, and medication administration . This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include disease prevention, delegation of supervision of self-administered medications, resident teaching, and wellness counseling. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide residents with three meals per day. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as RN conducts consultation with the resident, plan must include types and frequency of services needed, he program must be reviewed as the resident’s condition requires, and plan must include information about the resident’s problems and needs. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver programs and through the non-Medicaid state-funded Connecticut Home Care Program for Elders. Staff are required to receive training in a number of fields. These areas include applicable regulations, 6 hours of annual in-service continuing education on topics, 10-hour orientation, and community policies and procedures.
