Assisted living communities offer supervision, social events, and personal care to individuals who are on average 65 years of age or older. Assisted living communities often offer supervision of care, opportunities for recreational activity, and support with daily activities. In certain cases, communities may provide continuing care, nursing care, or hospice. The state of Virginia maintains specific rules related to this kind of community. The Virginia Department of Social Services governs this type of community. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver program–Virginia Alzheimer s Assisted Living. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include Assessing residents for whom restraints are in us, Meet the service plan objectives, Meet residents physical, mental, emotional, and psychosocial needs, and Monitoring the community s medication management plan and infection control plans. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include The community must have a medication management plan that is reviewed and approved by the Department., a licensed health care professionall must annually review all residents medications, and Medications may be administered by licensed individuals or by medication aides . Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as develop a care plan with the input of the resident, family, direct care staff, case manager, and health care providers, as relevant and Initial comprehensive assessment . Staff members obtain training in a number of areas. These areas include first-aid and cpr training, reporting requirements, confidential treatment of personal information, and procedures for detecting suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include Periodic oversight of special diets by a dietitian or nutritionist, bedtime and between meal snacks must be available, and three nutritious meals must be provided each day.
