Assisted living communities offer recreational activities, personal care, and oversight to persons around 65 years old. The services offered often include help with ADLs. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as treatment requirements, problematic behaviors, activities of daily living needs, and a comprehensive mental and physical assessment. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include uncomplicated interventions to manage occasional behaviors that might disrupt or harm the resident or others, assistance in accessing and coordinating health services, supervision or occasional assistance with two or more activities of daily living, and occasional assistance in accessing social and recreational services. Staff must receive training in a variety of areas. These areas include their individual job requirements, residents’ rights, the use of service plans, and basic food safety. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminders to take medications, staff who have passed a Board of nursing program may administer medications, and assistance with self-administration of medications. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be palatable, meals must be properly prepared, meals must be varied, and programs must provide three meals a day and snacks.
