Assisted living communities provide a sense of community as well as individualized support. The types of service provided often include support with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under monitoring and assessment. In certain instances, communities may provide hospice, dementia care, or respite. The state of Virginia maintains specific regulations associated with this kind of community. The Virginia Department of Social Services certifies this community type. Staff must obtain training in a variety of subjects. These include: reporting requirements, procedures for detecting suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation, confidential treatment of personal information, and Residents rights and responsibilities. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. In total, there can be no more than 2 residents to a room. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include 24-hour supervision, Assessing residents for whom restraints are in us, periodic health care and oversight through a licensed health care professionall, and Meet the service plan objectives. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver program–Virginia Alzheimer s Assisted Living.
