An assisted living community is a residential living community which administers care, assistance, and support to healthy seniors who are not in need of skilled nursing support. Assisted living communities commonly provide help with transportation and appointments, chances for recreational activity, and assistance with daily activities. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. Staff members receive training in a number of areas. These include: basic food safety, the use of service plans, fire and life safety, and state-approved, 5-hour training on cognitive impairment and mental illness. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be of sufficient quantity and quality to meet daily nutritional needs, programs must provide three meals a day and snacks, meals must be well-balanced, and meals must be properly prepared. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include staff who have passed a Board of nursing program may administer medications, reminders to take medications, and medication administration.
