Occupants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide skilled nursing, Alzheimer’s care, or hospice. The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene supervises this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. Staff are required to receive education in a number of areas. These include: state-approved, 5-hour training on cognitive impairment and mental illness, their individual job requirements, residents’ rights, and fire and life safety. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessed on psychiatric conditions, risk factor management needs, problematic behaviors, and a comprehensive mental and physical assessment. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be varied, programs must provide three meals a day and snacks, meals must be of sufficient quantity and quality to meet daily nutritional needs, and meals must be properly prepared. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. a licensed nutritionist or licensed dietician must review menus on a 4- week cycle for nutritional quality programs must also provide special diets as ordered by a physician or needed by residents There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminders to take medications, medication administration, and a licensed health professionall must review each resident’s medication regime within 14 days of admission.
