Assisted living communities commonly offer outings for leisurely activity, supervision of care, and help with appointments and transportation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide Alzheimer’s care, respite, or hospice. In Maryland, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $51,600 . The state of Maryland maintains specific standards related to this kind of community. The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene governs this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with self-administration of medications, uncomplicated interventions to manage occasional behaviors that might disrupt or harm the resident or others, supervision or occasional assistance with two or more activities of daily living, and assistance in accessing and coordinating health services. Staff members obtain education in a number of fields. These areas include fire and life safety, the resident assessment process, including standard precautions, and emergency disaster plans. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. a licensed nutritionist or licensed dietician must review menus on a 4- week cycle for nutritional quality programs must also provide special diets as ordered by a physician or needed by residents There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents.
