Assisted living communities offer residential living communities and health care for seniors who might require help with things such as showering or mobility. The services offered often involve support with ADLs. Occupants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide nursing, continuing care, or respite. In Georgia, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $135,450 . Georgia has specific regulations related to this kind of community. The Department of Community Health licenses assisted living communities and personal care homes certifies this community type. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals, one nutritious snack, and any therapeutic diets ordered by a resident’s health care provider must be provided each day. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment to determine the residents cognitive and behavioral impairments, whether family supports are available, A written care plan must document the assessment findings, and care plan must be updated at least annually and when there is a change in the resident’s needs. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include cognitive and functionally able residents may self-administer medications , assisting with an Epi pen, and communities must assist residents with self-administration if requested. Staff must obtain education in a variety of subjects. These include: including the special needs of residents with dementia, assisting residents in transferring and ambulation, Residents’ rights, and emergency first-aid and CPR. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Medicaid Waiver programs- ) the Community Care Services Program is managed by the Department of Community Health’s Division of Medical Assistance Plans and partners with the Division of Aging Services and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE) program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assisted living care, the provision of assisted self-preservation, described as personal services, and administration of medications by a certified medication aide. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 25. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents.
