Assisted living communities provide organized living communities and health care for seniors who require support with everyday activities such as washing or taking medication. The services offered often involve assistance with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under observation and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide dementia care, respite, or nursing. In Georgia, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $135,450 . Georgia has a number of provisions associated with this type of community. The Department of Community Health licenses assisted living communities and personal care homes governs this community type. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals, one nutritious snack, and any therapeutic diets ordered by a resident’s health care provider must be provided each day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 25. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Medicaid Waiver programs- ) the Community Care Services Program is managed by the Department of Community Health’s Division of Medical Assistance Plans and partners with the Division of Aging Services and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE) program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include described as personal services, assisted living care, administration of medications by a certified medication aide, and the provision of assisted self-preservation. Staff are required to receive training in a number of fields. These include: proper food preparation, assistance with medications, reporting requirements, and including the special needs of residents with dementia. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include communities must assist residents with self-administration if requested, applying topical medications, and assisting with an Epi pen. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment to determine the residents cognitive and behavioral impairments, assessment to determine the resident’s functional capacity with regard to ADLs, personal preferences relative to care needs, and A written care plan must document the assessment findings.
