Assisted living communities administer oversight, social interaction, and personal care to individuals around 65 years old. Assisted living communities commonly offer help with the activities of daily life, supervision of care, and aid with appointments and transit. The maximum occupancy is 4 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17. There must be one bath or shower for every 8 residents and one toilet for every 8 residents. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminders, assistance organizing medication, and assistance opening and taking medication. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care, intermittent nursing services, assistance with self-administration of medication, and activities. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as functional status assessment, cognitive status review, health history, and psychological history.
