Assisted living communities arrange residential communities and aid to people who might require support with everyday activities such as self-administering medication or mobility. Public assistance is available through 1115 Demonstration Waiver program–Managed Long-Term Services and Supports. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as plan updates regarding changes in physical or cognitive states, routines and preferences, nursing needs, and a health care assessment. Staff are required to receive training in a variety of areas. These include: abuse and neglect, assisted living concepts, caring for residents with impairment, and infection control/prevention. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include administer medication, supervise and assist with self-administration of medication, and monitor dosage.
