Assisted living communities offer residential living communities and assistance for seniors who may need help with mobility or taking medication. Services offered often involve assistance with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. In select instances, communities may provide “aging in place”, dementia care, or hospice. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois maintains a number of provisions related to this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health supervises this type of community. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. These include laundry, medication reminders, housekeeping, and non-medical services. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, A comprehensive assessment, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition.
