Assisted living communities provide organized living communities and aid for people who need help with things such as washing or cooking meals. Assisted living communities often provide aid with transit and appointments, opportunities for organized activity, and support with daily activities. In some instances, communities may provide continuing care, skilled nursing care, or dementia care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, and A comprehensive assessment. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications, reading the medication label to residents, and observing the resident. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include housekeeping, security, emergency response systems, and assistance with activities of daily living. Staff members receive training in a number of areas. These include: residents’ need and service plans, promotion of dignity, neglect prevention, and job responsibilities and limitations. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program.
