Assisted living communities arrange residential living communities and health care for people who require help with things such as self-administering medication or cooking. Assisted living communities commonly offer opportunities for social activity, care supervision, and aid with daily activities. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer “aging in place”, hospice, or dementia care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Staff members obtain education in a variety of areas. These areas include choice, resident rights, infection control, and disaster procedures. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration, medication reminders, and documenting whether or not the resident took the medication. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, A comprehensive assessment, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication administration, non-medical services, medication reminders, and housekeeping.
