New Management needed

I was in love with this place until i went to see my mother an the only person i could trust to make sure my mother was well taken care of left the building due to POOR MANAGEMENT. this young lady made sure that my mother had everything she would need to live a enjoyable life there. she also made sure my mothers room well very clean so that she didn't get sick [name removed] was a great caregiver to my mother an my family wishes her the best. my mother really misses this young lady an it sading my soul to know that management in this building allows great workers to leave because they want to keep people who doesn't care about there jobs. i can say that she really cared about her job an my mother an i just wish they get management under control before they lose more great workers

Highly Recommended for Memory Care

I would recommend this community to anybody. I believe my loved one got really good care here. This isn't the fanciest places. There was only one bill a month I received for the same amount.

I am very happy

I am very happy with the care my sister receives at Avalon. The staff is always caring, patient and kind and attentive to her needs and wants. The facility is clean and neat. What I like the most is the low number of residents that allows more specialized care. She is always clean and has her hair washed and in clean clothes. Dementia is a nasty disease and I don’t wish it on anyone but if you have a loved one that needs this kind of specialized care, I would recommend Avalon Memory Care.

We cannot be more pleased

We cannot be more pleased with our decision to have our mother at the Avalon location on Butler Hill Rd. This is a family owned and operated company that has been operating for i think about 25 years. I can tell you that the care is very specialized and the staff truly cares. Prior to moving into Avalon, I had my mother in a facility owned by a large company and the staff was not treated correctly and it translated into the quality of care they provided. Avalon on the other hand is awesome!

My Mom has been at Avalon over 2 years

My mom has been a resident here for 2 years. The staff is loving and attentive and I feel like they really know my mom and her preferences. I’ve always had good communication from the Director, which has given me incredible peace of mind during the COVID pandemic. The two RN’s that are on staff are excellent and very experienced.

Terrible place with simular state inspections.

I visited my mother in law around 6 months ago. My wife and I noticed how dirty the facility was, sticky floors, a urine stained couch missing a seat cushion in a hallway and trash on the floors. Asked staff to review state of MO inspection reports. By law, they need to show to anyone who asks. They refused and had no idea what I was talking about. Checked out her shared room. Had broken off wall toilet paper holder, no paper anywhere, 2 nom working lights. They then told me to leave or they would call PD.

Anonymous - Toured community

A fairly new facility. Very attractive; the open kitchen is beautiful. (Oddly, during our visit at 11 a.m., no one was cooking or cleaning in it.) They seem to be short on front office staff -- the single staff member we saw was handling a conference call, so the director of nursing conducted our tour. The central area is set up with rows of recliners -- great for watching TV, but not good at all for interaction with anyone. Most residents were at the dining tables, getting manicures. Rooms are nicely sized; the bathrooms were over the top. This was the most expensive facility we've toured, but we couldn't come up with any reason to justify the expense.

Avalon Memory Care is excellent

We found Avalon Memory Care after an extensive search and unfortunately after much angst and frustration with low quality care at other facilities for our mother. Avalon's model is excellent in providing attentive care for those suffering from Alzheimer's and dementia. Ratio is 1:3-5. The small community allows the staff to get to know their residents and care for their individual/specific needs. The facility's home-like environment makes the residents feel secure and as they are part of a family. The food is prepared and served family style, not institutionalized. My mother re-gained an appetite and quickly responded positively to the staff and enjoyed the activities. We had peace of mind that she was well cared for and did not worry about her being left alone. Interestingly, she immediately stopped the 'wandering' behavior that previous facility said was such a problem. Unfortunately, mother died within a few short weeks after moving into Avalon. Our greatest regret was that we did not find it sooner for her to flourish and enjoy what time she had left. [Name removed] and her staff are skilled, joyous and loving. We felt cared for along with our mother. I highly recommend Avalon. Take a tour and find out for yourself.

They rejected my stepdad on move in day

My experience with the facility wasn’t that great. The whole place is just beautiful and gorgeous. I was tickled to [Removed] that my stepfather was going to stay here. It’s a very small house with a tightknit community. Everything was just so excellent. The kitchen was all open so everyone can see the chefs cooking. They had a small courtyard to go out and walk on. There were tables, chairs, big screen TVs, and couched in the main room to socialize. It’s a brand new building with pretty art and décor. But I was devastated when it came time to move him in. Two days before moving in, a nurse came to the hospital and assessed him and gave us the go ahead. When we arrived, she came in again to assess him and check his blood pressure. She immediately said that we need to take him back to the hospital and that he couldn’t stay at this facility. When we got to the hospital, the emergency room doctors said his blood pressure was of no concern. We called the nurse and she beat around the bush and said she decided that the facility wouldn’t be able to care for him. I guess he was more incapacitated than they thought. A few days later they tried to get my mom to sign papers for who knows what. He was only there for a few minutes! I was just shocked about this whole thing. They should really be more careful in assessing their residents beforehand. The facility says they are a dementia and Alzheimer’s care facility but I guess it’s to a certain point. It’s more of an independent assisted living facility in my eyes. Based off of my experience, I would not recommend this facility.
