Assisted living communities have the luxury of apartment style housing and social interaction as well as personalized assistance. Assisted living communities frequently offer care supervision, aid with daily activities, and chances for social activity. In some instances, communities may offer “aging in place”, respite, or hospice. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Staff are required to receive education in a variety of areas. These include: reporting, abuse, philosophy and goals, and confidentiality. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, A comprehensive assessment, and assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include supervision of self-administered medications, documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, and only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3.
