Response from Churchill Place
July 24, 2023Corine, thank you for your 5-star review. I am happy to hear that your mom had a positive experience at Churchill Place. It is our mission to protect, engage and love our residents. Thank you for taking the time to leave the review. I will share with our team.
I work in the healthcare industry and have had the pleasure of coming into this community to work with residents both before and after the recent change in ownership which occurred in April 2023. I always enjoy coming to this community - the facility is beautiful, well-kept by the staff, and the residents are always friendly and participative in the variety of offered activities. The change in ownership has been VERY positive, and the new management team is highly skilled, easy to work with, kind, and compassionate - you can tell they genuinely care about the residents, families, and services they provide. Overall, I just really enjoy visiting this community, especially compared to others I've worked in over the years and I wanted to take a little time to share my wonderful experience with others who may be looking into finding a new home for their loved ones!

June 5, 2023Natalie, thank you for your wonderful 5-star review. It pleases me to hear that you have seen a positive difference with the new management. Anthem and Churchill Place's mission is to protect, engage and love our residents. We are very fortunate that the team has really taken to this mission and live it daily. I will happily share your feedback with the team. Thank you!
I've been touring memory care homes recently and Charter is definitely one of the nicest places I have visited! It has a welcoming atmosphere and the director was very knowledgeable about how to care for people with dementia and Alzheimer's. We want the best for our loved one and Charter is at the top of our list for consideration.

We admitted both of our parents to Charter this summer. Soon after their admission, that Leadership team left and the facility spent the summer in limbo without clinical leadership or guidance. They relied heavily on agency nursing staff who were poorly and minimally trained on care of persons with dementia. There were so many problems and issues with care, including lack of care coordination, improper response to medical conditions and no communication. New leadership is lacking and these problems still exist. Caregivers are still poorly trained and only a few are truly dedicated to compassionate care. They have also just lost two key staff from Activities and Front Office who REALLY CARED. We have now transferred our parents to another facility where they are receiving the professional, kind and skilled care they deserve. We would not recommend this facility at this time or in the future. They have a very long way to go.

Please look elsewhere. The new ED in this community is clueless, lacks leadership skills and is manipulative. No focus given to the care of the residents. Hopefully there are other good facilities to pick from.

The staff are great and very dedicated. For memory care, the facility is pretty much a perfect layout. It's not overly large, and you can't get lost.

There is a little problem with the medical side of things, but they are doing the best they can for our loved one and has brought in hospice to help out as well. He loves sitting outside and the staff do a really great job getting the residents up out of their rooms and interacting with one another - they play different board games and play different movies. He seems to be enjoying the meals and dining service and based on our experience so far we would absolutely recommend the Charter Senior Living community to other families.

We had a wonderful tour experience with Charter Senior Living of Glen Ellyn. We had nothing negative at all to say, we just felt another place fit our loved ones needs just a bit better and they also worked with us on the pricing. Charter was a beautiful, dedicated memory care facility.
It is a very friendly and welcoming facility. The patients are well cared for and very pleased with the nursing staff and therapy group.

Charter Senior Living is very organized and pretty clean. When you walk in there's no smell and nothing in the way. The meals are good, I've been there for supper and it looks tasty. If a person can't swallow very well or has other restrictions, they have different diets for different people. They'll make the food for that and if you think it needs to be changed, you can speak to the head nurse and they'll do that. There are people like CNA's who will sit with your loved one, if they have no one to sit with. If you want to bring food up and have time with your loved one, there's always at least one private room available. Their chart for activities is very good. They keep them busy all day with music, crafts, and TV. They do light exercise to get them up and moving. The bathrooms are easily accessible from the activity room, with about four different activity rooms including an art room. I'd recommend that you go see and investigate it for yourself. You don't have to bring sheets or pillowcases because they have a lot of that stuff available. Some of the towels have been mixed up because they keep them in the shower room with other peoples things. It's a pretty big place, so I know they can't run from room to room to grab things. They have different themes and names for the halls. For example: the Chicago hall, the music hall, etc.. They each have corresponding decorations, so it's kind of hard to get lost with that setup. You can always call for help and there is someone there. There are pulley-chains in the bathroom for help too. If you're in a main bedroom and cant get out of bed, you'll have to yell for help because they don't have any of the residents wearing a pendant right now. In the state of Illinois you can't put bars on the bed, unless you've just had surgery or you're in a hospital-like setting. So Charter doesn't have that for help with getting out of the bed, but no other senior living community in Illinois does either. They have a security system in place when you come into the building. If you want to visit, they have to make sure you're healthy. They have a good system when checking in to make sure you don't have an illness. You have to sanitize and there's a gadget that takes your temperature. They also give you a questionnaire regarding your current state of being or recent symptoms before you can go in. Residents are allowed to have several visitors at once, but it might change dependent upon Covid rates. It's a good place, and it's very reasonable budget-wise. Moving your loved one here will help you feel relaxed. You'll know your loved one is being taken care of pretty well, and you will feel confident in your decision to leave them here.

We are very happy that we chose Charter for Mom's new home. The entire staff (Director, Managers, Nurses, Activities Coordinators, and Caregivers) are focused, capable, and actively working closely together to provide exceptional care of the residents. They listen closely and immediately respond to requests from our family and actively customize the care they provide for Mom's individual needs.

We wanted more of a community feel for my loved one, overall not the right fit.
My loved one did not participate in a lot of activities but I was hoping that they would motivate him to do more activities around the community. I would recommend this community for your loved one. Everyone listened to me when I had something to say, they answered all of my questions and reached out if they needed to. Everyone was just really easy to work with.

We are in love with this place, we are so lucky to have found Charter Senior Living. Our loved one was having difficulty being accepted into other memory care units due to "behavior," but this community asked all the right questions and assured us they would do a great job. Our loved one is safe, well taken care of and treated like family. We come unannounced whenever we want, anytime during the day and we have never seen anything concerning or any red flags. They keep up constant communication with us over text or email, they have all the services one would want to have. This is a difficult job, but they are doing wonderful.

This community feels very much like a family and a home. It does not feel like a center or institutionalized at all. The residents are always engaged in activities and doing something. Sometimes when I visit my loved one does not want to visit because she is doing something with her friends. In other communities my loved one was down and lonely and she is the happiest here that I have seen here in years. Even living a lone she did not have the joy that she has now.

If you have a family member that needs memory care, I would recommend this community to others. They are friendly and supportive. One thing that appealed to us is the music, and one of the residents plays the piano. This allows other residents to do sing alongs. They even have quiz sessions for the residents to participate in. They have both physicals and occupational therapy if needed by residents. The community has birthday celebrations for the residents. Over the holidays they did virtual visits with families and residents to keep them in contact. This was great and I appreciated that.

Response from Churchill Place
May 4, 2021We are so happy you have chosen us for your loved one! We strive to make all of our families feel the same way you do!
It was such an usual time with covid, but our overall experience was good. The staff members were kind and paid attention to not only my husband but to me as well. The staff members were just very nice and friendly, and we would recommend this community to others.
The team at Charter Living has shown me what it means to care for someone. Not only does my aunt get the best care, she is also treated like a friends and loved one by the staff. They keep me in touch with all her care and are extremely knowledgeable for my aunt. I can't say enough about the wonderful staff at Charter! Thank you for all you for the community at Charter. It shows you truly love your job and enhance your resident's lives.

A Place for Mom has scored Churchill Place 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
