Assisted living communities arrange organized living communities and aid for people who need help with things such as dressing or bathing. Services offered often include help with the activities of daily life. Inhabitants may be kept under observation and evaluation. In certain situations, communities may offer continuing care, dementia care, or nursing. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. Florida has a number of provisions related to this kind of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation licenses this community type. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , communities must document such assessment, community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community , and medical examination report. Staff must obtain training in a number of fields. These include: emergency evacuation, resident abuse, neglect, and and exploitation, resident behavior and needs, and providing assistance with activities of daily living. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include unlicensed staff may assist residents with self-administration, reading the label, and opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities , the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, meals must be adapted to residents preferences, and meals must be adapted to residents’ food habits. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with activities of daily living , personal care services, nursing services, and assistance with self-administration of medications.
