Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide dementia care, respite, or hospice. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as routines and preferences, nursing needs, a level of care assessment, and plan updates regarding changes in physical or cognitive states. In total, there can be no more than 2 residents to a room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include maintain a standard of food preparation that meets the needs of residents, prepare meals and snacks based on the Food and Nutrition board’s recommended dietary allowances, and provide three meals a day. Staff must obtain education in a variety of areas. These include: residents rights, infection control/prevention, Alzheimer’s’ and dementia care, and emergency plans and procedures. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assist with personal care, social work services, dietary services, and pharmaceutical services.
