Assisted living communities offer residential living communities and aid to persons who may require a helping hand with things such as taking medication or mobility. The services offered often include help with the activities of daily life. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In some cases, communities may provide continuing care, hospice, or respite. In New Jersey, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $45,000 . Public assistance is available through 1115 Demonstration Waiver program–Managed Long-Term Services and Supports. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as plan updates regarding changes in physical or cognitive states, a level of care assessment, nursing needs, and routines and preferences. There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include limited nursing care, pharmaceutical services, dietary services, and transportation. Staff must obtain education in a number of fields. These include: abuse and neglect, Alzheimer’s’ and dementia care, caring for residents with impairment, and assisted living concepts. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include administer medication, monitor dosage, and supervise and assist with self-administration of medication.
