Assisted living communities provide residential communities and health care to persons who may require a helping hand with things such as dressing or self-administering medication. The services provided often include support with ADLs. Residents may be kept under supervision and assessment. In select cases, communities may provide Alzheimer’s care, hospice, or “aging in place”. In Delaware, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $72,414 . Delaware maintains specific statutes associated with this type of community. The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), Division of Long Term Care Residents Protection governs this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as The UAI collects information about the residents psychosocial needs, The UAI collects information about the resident’s mental and physical status, communities must develop a service agreement with each resident, and RN conducts a Uniform Assessment Instrument (UAI) with the resident. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include leisure activities that promote the physical and mental well-being of each resident, arrangements for emergency transportation, assistance with activities of daily living, and opportunities for social interaction. Staff must receive education in a variety of fields. These include: emergency disaster plans, infection contro, use of service agreements, and basic food service. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include A dietician or nutritionist must ensure that menus are nutritionally adequate and a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals. Public assistance is available through The Delaware Diamond State Health Plan Plus. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents.
